How To Make Your URLs SEO Friendly

Earlier i have posted two posts in SE Optimization Series which was about Optimizing Title Tags and Using Meta Description to Attract Organic Traffic. But today i am here with some best techniques which should be used in making your blog’s URLs Search Engine Friendly. Many peoples thinks that URL doesn't plays any role in overall SEO of a website/blog and they are totally wrong. URLs are shown in search results and majority of visitors decide which link they have to click by just looking into URL and description of the link. Mostly webmasters also follow this rule because they already know that which website is going to satisfy their needs. So making your URLs SE friendly is as important as posting articles to your blog.
I will recommend you to first read these two articles because these articles will tell you the basics of SEO and will let you take care of your blog.
  1. Optimize Title For Better Indexing and Rankings
  2. Use Meta Description To Attract Organic Traffic
After reading these two post, you are now ready to go step one more step in SEO ladder. So carefully read the below mentioned tips and techniques and apply them to your blog and you will definitely reach your goal shortly.

Shorter Is Better

You must have heard this because this is the very common technique and it also work till date. Because of the shorter length of your URL, it will be fully visible in search result and  will increase the click through rate of your blog. Short length URLs are easier to copy and paste in E-mails, Tweets and other shares. On other hand you could also use a long descriptive URL but it is mostly possible that people will not click the URL because they can’t read the whole URL.
Make It Shorter and Readable Also
Making your link only Shorter will not help you but also make it readable to others. If your url will shorter and readable then the chances of click will be increased. Below is a example of shorter but unreadable URL.

Use Keywords In Limit

I have already discussed a lot about keywords and their impact on Search Engine Optimization. In one hand it is very important to do but on other hand , overuse of keyword will kill your blog for ever. Using Google Adword’s Keyword Planner is best because it provides the exact and accurate result. It is recommended to use a strong keyword in the URL of your post. You can also use a long tail keyword but make sure that your URL not stretch too much. If your page contains some specific terms then don’t forget to mention that in your URL.

Make Your URL Static

Static URL means your URL should not use too much symbols and make it easily readable. Using lot of “?”, “123” and other symbols will make your URL harder to read. You can use “/” for distinguishing labels or  directory and “_”(Underscores) to separate words in your URL, they seems similar like a blank space.

Avoid 404

404 is a not found error. It generally occurs when you removed a content and visitor somewhere found you link and clicked on it. 404 error also harms your Search Rankings but using Google Webmaster Tools you can short out all your 404 error. You can use 301 redirection to overcome this 404 Not Found Error Penalty.

Use 301 Redirection

301 Redirection is a permanent which passes approx. 99% of ranking power to the redirected page. It is the best method to redirect your visitors form old blog to new blog. It not only sends visitors but also gives the ranking of your old page to the new redirected page.

After tweaking your post’s URL will all above methods will make your blog grab more traffic from Search Engine and Social Media.

How To Use Meta Description Effectively To Gain Organic Traffic

You must have read our previous post which was about Title Tags, if not then click here to read it. Now today we are going to learn about Meta Description. Well it is not always necessary to use Meta Description but it is good habit to use it. Below i am going to focus on why you should use Meta Tags and how they will be more effective but first let’s take a look at What Meta Description are.

What Meta Descriptions Are ?

Meta Description is a short description of your post which will appear in SERP of any search engine. These are found to be best in increasing click through rates in SERP. It is recommended to use a concise description which must have some strong keywords. Although it doesn’t make any influence your search engine ranking.

Why Use Meta Description ?

As i told above, Meta Description doesn’t make any impact on search engine but it is extremely important in gaining clicks from search results. And all we know that Search Engine Traffic is priceless. So i will recommend you to use Meta Description Tags in your blogs to attract some traffic from search engine result page.

How To Use Meta Description In Your Blog

A meta description can be added in any website or blog easily just you all have to do is to copy the small snippet of code and paste it to to your blog’s/website’s html. Copy below code and paste it just below the starting oh <head> tag.
<meta name=”description” content=”Here your description will be placed but keep it below 160 characters”>
Replace the Blue with your desired description and enjoy.
Now we will check out some tips and techniques which will polish your web skills and will make you go higher and higher in search engine.

1. Recommended Length Of The Meta

According to the recommendation, meta description should contains at most 160 characters. You can make a longer description than 160 character but your rest of characters will truncated. Usually peoples use concise description of their post which should represent your whole post in short story, just like a thumbnail of an image. It is also recommended to keep meta description at least 155 characters.

2. Use Unique Description For Every Page

As a blog or website can have numerous pages/posts of different content, they should also have unique meta description tags. Unique meta description tags for every page will skyrocket your click through rates in SERP’s.

3. Use As Concise Description As you Can

As we all know that it is only description and description should be concise and understandable. Making your description concise will let visitors know what they are going to get in this webpage. Don’t only truncate it to small but also keep readability in mind because it is the only thing which is responsible for better click through rates.

4. Using Appropriate Keywords

Making a keyword rich description can be a golden chance for you to make your content visible to thousands of people and by using the above techniques you can get more click from SERP’s. As we already know that we have to maintain keyword density of 2% to avoid penalty, so never try to full your description with keywords. There is a other meta tag namely “Meta Keywords” which can be used to declare some keywords to every posts.

5. Not A Necessary Task

Well in one hand we have described the good features of using meta description but on other hand we can just neglect it. Means we can skip adding meta description for posts because when someone searches a content for a specific keyword, Search Engine arranges all the available links by keyword density, PageRank etc. Search engine will automatically generate a description of any page appeared in Search Result and show them to visitor. But there is hardly readability in those automatically generated descriptions. So it is highly recommended to use meta description with all above mentioned techniques to increase your search engine visibility.
